The other cool thing is that Sensei. It's a part of the FEDiverse. You can follow Mastodon accounts and technically Blue sky accounts that are bridged and they'll show up with their images in the timeline

The app does need some work but I follow the guy that makes the app and I guess he's working on a big overall that should be coming somewhat soon

I feel like pixel Fed has just enough to give everybody that old 2012 Instagram feel and stories and if you don't like stories you can turn it off

That's fair. I switch a lot more people that do use Instagram knew about it because I would use it more often if people were on it and using it more often

Also, aside from the communications part, there are other products like Instagram that have a decent alternative in @pixelfedapp.bsky.social. Especially if you want that old-school Instagram feel.

Although I only use WhatsApp to talk to my extended family across the sea but never anything important or sensitive

As far as comms go, I definitely agree. WhatsApp has a stranglehold because it is a legitimately good app simply run by awful people
I'm really surprised no one has made a truly good competitor that covers everything. WhatsApp does like maybe telegram or signal
