Today in Black History: Zora Neale Hurston was born on Jan. 7, 1891. When she died in 1960, "she had published more books than any other Black woman in America. She was unable to capture a mainstream audience in her lifetime, died poor and alone in a welfare hotel." www.history.com/this-day-in-...

The first black character to get his own comic book was Lobo, a Civil War veteran turned Wild West gunfighter. It was published by Dell Comics in December 1965 & lasted 2 issues. Many distributors had sent back cases of the comic unopened.
