The message of a piece of art is unrelated to the quality of that piece of art. So much bad blood could have been avoided in the culture war if artists & especially corporate execs trying to cash in on a “woke” message recognized this, instead of producing bad art & selling it based on its message.

Stop making it seem like their desperate and afraid and look out your window. A massive part, perhaps even a majority of this country supports the strongman tactics and stupid displays of power by this regime. Stop pretending we’re not still on the back foot, the administration is pressing forward.

This is a silly thing to turn into a big thing. It is not 100% clear whether Trump was referring to the literal MS13 (photoshopped) or the symbols (not photoshopped). He may be mixing up the literal with its meaning. But it makes us look dumb to fixate on the literal letters here.

If we want to head this off, we can’t just make fun of JD Vance. We can’t just turn him into a meme. That only serves to saturate the media landscape with his face and voice, and people will recognize and trust him. We need to take the air out of the room, make him irrelevant, move the spotlight.
