The new video is my first attempt at doing some sort of visuals other than some sort of typical music visualization. I used a bunch of free videos for source material, and Shotcut for the video editing. Seems to work reasonably well.

Going to head home and compose video for the new songs so that I can get them on YT.

Have a good one, everyone!

Since I want to get new music posted to YT, it appears I will have to use some CC licensed video clips rather than shooting my own video -- just don't have time. But NO AI!

My father is helping catalog and comment on his massive LP collection. Our plan is to record everything to preserve it, then put everything up for sale. Most of the discs are in excellent condition (he's a stickler for proper cleaning).

I'm discovering LOTS of sample material :-)

Time to go home and get that song idea put down in the DAW.

Whatever your time zone, have a good one!

When you get a song idea, but you're at the office writing code....

Time to head home from the job (writing code), and go make music in the studio.

Enjoy the rest of your day, morning or evening!

Looks one of the state parks in the county (Belfair, WA) wants to generate some traffic, so they're looking for musicians. Hooking up with a local organizer to see what can be made to happen.

I use a Linux machine as a development workstation (waveform generation, etc.) in the studio, and it generates a lot of electrical noise. Switching to an Orange Pi, which is just as fast, uses 10 watts of power, and no fan noise to speak of. Will document the adventure here.

I think Arturia's "Pigments" passed the stress test. Loaded an entire 24 bit / 48 Khz recording of one side of an LP as a sample just for the heck of it. Subsequent effects processing was lots of fun -- and a bit wild.

Had fun this last weekend sampling a vintage four-LP box set, played back on a vintage Dual turntable and Denon preamp setup. The Tascam digital recorder looked distinctly out of place next to the old gear!

Four discs down, 2,096 to go in the collection.

This weekend, I'll be starting to digitize my father's enormous LP collection (around 2,100 albums). Everything from shellac 78's (there's a Caruso in there somewhere) to Pink Floyd, but gobs of theater organs. There's also a Spike Jones collection, which I'm keen on finding.

Visited Denmark in 2023 (my wife is of Danish descent), and fell in love with the country. Wish I was at Distortion...and I wish we'd been able to go to the Roskilde festival.

Writing music while fending off the black cat who is invisible on the left side of the screen. The metronome is a gift from a longtime friend in New Mexico.

I had reservations about starting a second career while pusining 60, but an artist about my age (and who is vastly more talented) told me to get started and not worry. Since he's a touring artist, I figured he knew what he was talking about. So here I go.

My father is also a musician, building and playing pipe organs for almost seven decades as well as being a CPA. We both enjoy electronic music; he bought "Switched On Bach" the week it was published and I got to hear a Moog for the first time. I've been hooked ever since.

First post! I've been a software engineer for decades, and originally started writing code in 1980 so I could do computer-based sound generation. Music got put on hold so I could make a living with software, but now that I'm a bit older, music is coming back into the picture.
