Policymakers on either side who think the general public will support a hot war with China over Taiwan are seriously mistaken. I think they mostly know that, but the frequent references in news articles about defending Taiwan suggest underlying public will that doesn’t exist.

Tariffs on imports and cuts to government spending (whose recipients mostly turnaround and spend the money in the real economy) raise the likelihood of a recession. Could overwhelm stimulative impact of tax cuts for the rich and corporations.
