Ignore the cat, she was sulking because she wasn't allowed in any of the boxes.

"we've found a plant, and we need the latin name to be something meaningful, you know? not just planty mcplantface"
"gotcha!"

This was one of our favourites and "don't ask me any questions" entered the family lexicon.

See also "this is not my hat". That crab is such a grass.

Got a new sewing tin!
December 7, 2025 at 12:30 PM
I had a hole in a cushion and while I was darning that hole, I also made a new one. The second darn was way more fun to do :) visible mending for the win!

There's a soundtrack as well. The great tit is mighty annoyed I'm sat here and doesn't mind telling me so.

Hedge news! This is not the best photo, as the tree is quite tall and the best bit is at the top. Either way, the smooth leafed holly is doing her thing and the red berries are profuse. The hedge is starting to feel festive

Oooh fabulous! I managed to get a shot of the sparrowhawk we see once a year. It was on the trellis when I saw it, but when I had returned from getting my camera, it had giggled madly and flown into the tree.

I maintain that this design is one of the greats of the 20th century. The silver and red iteration is also iconic.

My preference is for the dark chocolate rather than the milk; controversial, I know.

Hedge news! The hawthorn is doing what it does after flowering.

We also have an outbreak of bastard foxes, who've taken to victimising our lawnmower by chewing on the lawn boundary wire. The lawnmower now has anxiety and refuses to go out because they don't know where they are.

So floofy! Even their little leggies!

Snowberry snowberryin'

I'm sat next to the behemoth pampas grass. It keeps shifting and clicking. It's awful stuff and I hate it. But ... it's also in the shade so I'm putting up with it.

Lowly worm's apple car
July 24, 2025 at 12:09 PM
Jealous of the attention the apple tree is getting, the young oak in the hedge has outsourced a fruit request. I suspect a wasp has fulfilled the requisition.
July 24, 2025 at 8:21 AM
Determined today why maidenhair spleenwort is co called. Is it because the young plant has bounteous, bright curls, like that of a fair maid that caught your eye while you were idling over your cups?

Not so much. Is it because the old plant is PANT MOUSTACHE? Yes. Yes it is.

The holly is flowering, but it doesn't look right. Oh, that'd be honeysuckle.

Am having an Eve moment. Do I eat this fruit to become wiser? And by wiser I mean, work out if this is an eater or a cooker?

Today in the hedge I found evening primrose

I suspect the previous owner was either trying to start a business or self medicate
