This year’s budget has left many disabled people worse off, and the upcoming protest on the 8th of December will demonstrate just how urgently change is needed.

“Compared to disabled men or non-disabled women, is it harder for disabled women, girls and non-binary/genderqueer/gender non-conforming people to earn money? What makes it more difficult for this group specifically?”

This type of work is never acknowledged let alone paid for and it can add emotional and physical stress and pain to your life if you’ve a disability.”

This piece encouraged our participants to share their stories and boldly name their experiences, and it feels especially meaningful to share it today as we remember Alice Wong, a true powerhouse of global disability advocacy. (2/2)
For in silence, we suffer invisibly. So, let us name the effects of poverty and the opportunities for change. For when named, we see them more clearly. And when seen, a new beginning becomes possible, change becomes imaginable and a different future can be envisioned for all.

We’ll be sharing more reflections and outputs from this event soon, but for now, we want to express our deep thanks to everyone who contributed their time, experience, and expertise, and to those who helped make the event possible.

More importantly, we came together to build a movement for change — to strengthen networks of disabled women and non-binary people, supported by Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs) and other civil society allies, working collectively to address poverty and inequality in our community.
