While an interesting research topic, having more sporadic-E won't be on the level of "harming radio communication". The world has sporadic-E conditions regularly and operators should or are aware of the extra propagation.

This is all Michigan basin related and where the salt formation comes up close enough to the surface. In western Michigan the same formation only produced gypsum (and mined in Grand Rapids)
