Like what an absolutely evil story, I feel so bad for this man

Louis Allen, a black witness to the shooting, initially testified in support of Hurst's self-defense claim. Allen later discussed the case with SNCC civil rights activists including Julian Bond and reconsidered his testimony, believing that Hurst was the aggressor and had in fact murdered Lee. Learning that a federal jury was considering charges against Hurst, Allen met with representatives of the FBI and Civil Rights Commission to see if federal protection would be available were he to change his testimony to the truth.
When the Justice Department told him they would not offer him protection, Allen, afraid he would be killed, decided to stick to his original version of events. The white community nonetheless heard that Allen had talked to the government, and he was threatened, fired from his job, and harassed by law enforcement. In January 1964, the night before he was planning to move away from Liberty, Allen was murdered in his driveway by two shotgun blasts. Hurst's role in the Allen murder remains unclear.
Investigations since 1994 have suggested that Allen was murdered by Daniel Jones, an Amite County deputy sheriff, but no one has been prosecuted for the murder.

Such familiar tactics when we consider how universities have treated protestors for Palestine

Many southern whites reacted toward black demands for civil rights in the same manner that they had since the end of the Civil War. At first they attempted to ignore them. But the sit-in, unlike a court ruling, was impossible to disregard for it disrupted business and reduced profits. As a consequence, white officials formed committees to "study" proposals, applied pressure on older black leaders to control their youth, and demanded that black college presidents expel activists. During the first year of the sit-ins black college administrators expelled over 140 students and dismissed almost 60 faculty members.

This time period of American history is very funny simply for schemes like this showing just the unabashed fear-mongering to defend evil, communists are gonna desegregate our schools 😱

Text from “The Movement and the Sixties”, Southern reasons for maintaining white supremacy were always the same. They talked of maintaining the "Southern Way of Life," and of
"Christian values." They were for "states' rights," and against "federal in-terference," "race mongrelization," and, of course, Communism. South-em politicians spoke out against subversives and state governments held hearings which were aimed to prove that Communists were responsible for blacks demanding their civil rights, or, in other words, that "colored folks" were happy with their plight but they were being manipulated by outside agitators. The White Citizens Council of Louisville handed out flyers: "EXPOSED! The Communist Plot to Integrate Public Schools, Pools and Housing Projects," and Louisiana conducted hearings in 1958 on the "Subversion in Racial Unrest: An Outline of a Strategic Weapon to Destroy the Governments of Louisiana and the United States." The committee chairman, W. M. Rainach, proclaimed that the publication presented the "first official outline of the Communist conspiracy originating with Joseph Stalin that is now widely acknowledged as the origin and guiding influence behind the move to integrate the public schools of the South."

With the way colleges are all too happy to sell out to Trump’s admins pressures it’s a reminder they’ve never been a reliable institution. Academia’s strength come from the individual within it and the institutions beholden to capital don’t see them as more than vessels for increasing captial.
