Taken over line management of Science this term. Been reading @adamboxereducation.bsky.social Teach Secondary Science in preparation. Great book! Full of useful insights, not just for Science teaching.

We discussed ratio this week in our professional development session. Focusing on what high thinking and participation ratio looks like. Created this diagram to illustrate the concept (terms used are borrowed from somewhere else). May be of use to others.

What seems missing for me in discussions around OFSTED changes is recognition that OFSTED isn’t the regulator. The DfE is. And they are making big decisions about schools based on OFSTED reports. Which makes them incredible high stakes.

5/ practical example
I have been using this grid to display on the board. Then simply marking students work with a ‘t-code’ giving a clear example. Students can then use the model and success criteria as a scaffold.
