News from around the 🌍: Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a new law this morning making the state the latest in the U.S. to allow medical assistance in dying (MAID) for terminally ill residents.

Organ donation is not required to receive medical assistance in dying (MAID) in Canada. Despite conspiratorial social media posts alluding to an organ-harvesting operation, whether to donate organs remains a personal choice — no one can be forced to do it.

Did you know? A recent Ipsos poll indicates that 72% of people across Canada support advance requests for MAID for individuals who are competent at the time of the request, even if they are not diagnosed with a grievous and irremediable medical condition.

Earlier today, Health Canada's Sixth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada was released. This annual data gives us important insight and understanding into who requests and receives MAID, and how and where it is delivered across the country.

Efforts to improve access to medical assistance in dying (MAID) are not attempts to expand the law. Instead, they aim to return to the requirements originally laid out by the Supreme Court of Canada.
