Started the day at a ram raid in Leicester, yelled “Stoppp!” in a taxi when I spotted another cordon, and ended it wading through sewage at a flat where a woman has to lock herself in. Just a normal day.

More than a dozen volunteers showed up this morning to help clean the pub, moving furniture and sorting through the damage. Bar supervisor Chloe Tinger, 26, said the devastation was overwhelming, describing the scene as “just devastation everywhere.”

Cimi and Yanela, who helped rescue a woman trapped in her car during the floods, were first alerted to the rising waters at around 5am on January 6. Within hours, the pub’s beer garden and surrounding areas were submerged, leaving them with extensive damage.

The owners of The Italian Greyhound, Cimi and Yanela Kazazi, revealed they had “lost everything” after chest-high floodwater swept through the pub. The pub was one of many properties affected when record-breaking floods hit Leicestershire this week.
