A side profile of a stocky and pensive nobleman. He is wearing a yellowish gambeson under brown lamellar armour. With both hands he holds a sword by its grip and hilt, the blade pointing down. A border woven from wheat and thorny stemmed flowers is meant to be reminiscent of an illuminated manuscript. Stylized text near the bottom reads The Fate of Lenn. Below the title text, in smaller font, the author name reads Dylan Madeley. On a rich black background, a longsword stands on its point in front of a cluster of wheat. Title text at the top reads The Redemption of Jarek. Author name at the bottom reads Dylan Madeley.

Scam alert: there's an IngramSpark impersonator at ingramsparkbookpublishers dot com. Part of a wave of publishing/ghostwriting scams from Pakistan that hijack authors looking to self-publish--they often "borrow" well-known publisher names but this one also "borrows" the real IngramSpark's logo
Screenshot of IngramSpark impersonator's contact form, with chat window where scammer sales rep "Travis Clark" claims that "We are Ingram Spark's hands-on services department. You will be able to find our information here: https://www.ingramsparkbookpublishers.com/

It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
(Yeah yeah I did)

Bought some pre-cut/chunked chicken as a good finishing touch to what's otherwise a three bean chili, and made sure to buy the sourest apple I could find while I was in the store. I would have gone straight for a sourer apple if there were one. Malic acid is a must. Not for the chili, but by itself.
dylanmadeley.bsky.social
Today involved an unexpected supermarket trip earlier on than I would normally do it, because it's time to brew up a slow cooker chili batch, and I thought the ingredients in the cupboard looked scant compared with the amount of tomato sauce I had purchased as a base.

Anyway, she had more chemistry with Chandra in one and a half books of the original trilogy than the hero did before a good way into the third. She might have earned her character name's literary association to the smallest degree when I never required her to.
dylanmadeley.bsky.social
People immediately clue in to the fact that I eschew the character name struggle today by opening Behind the Name and letting my gut instinct decide, based loosely on a schema of where certain IRL European cultures' names would fit in my entirely fictional world. You're fine with that or you're not.

The kind of reader who questioned why it had to be that name in 2015 will do so upon re-release and probably won't stop there. The kind of reader who didn't bat an eye about it in 2015, I wouldn't take seriously if they suddenly had a problem with it now.

After briefly wondering whether a pop star's choice of literary name use in a song would force me to change one in my rewrite of a 2008-conceived, 2015-released project, I've realized that's absurd and I will stand pat.

Pricing is such a weird game, as alien to me as marketing. I have held prices modest to attract readers and reviewers, and 10 years of experience say that this has been an insignificant draw. On advice I will bump prices up to a more confident level, but I'll be amazed if it helps.
dylanmadeley.bsky.social
As I'm strongly considering more appropriate ebook pricing (given cover art costs etc.) you might not see a deal like this again for a while. Who knows?

Last day of buffer posts with this messaging; thinking of changing it up 3 days at a time for the remainder of the month. This leads me to reread chapters for pull quotes which can be a fun time.

Somewhat regretting uninstalling my standalone AC unit so soon, it's too difficult to put back in to justify the effort for a week. Not exactly "clothes soaked through with sweat like I'm working overtime in an illicit distillery", but uncomfortable.
