This is the #1 reason I’ve considered moving abroad (Japan or continental Europe). The risk factor you can’t insulate yourself from is other people in giant vehicles driving irresponsibly. I live in a super walkable place, but the things I see from drivers daily could easily end up as a fatal crash.

I talk about this n my professional work, but there was a legitimate Friday night rush hour caused by the video stores, and they served as a “3rd place” where you would certainly run into someone you knew. I’m not sure there was a net benefit to it, but it was a social place for 10-15 years

There was a way to do it strategically to make a point, like if you were in a large population blue state (CA, OR, WA etc). That was relatively harmless. Anyone who voted that way in Florida got played

I agree that multi-lane roundabouts are a poor choice. For McGrath volume, a single lane in each direction could have no more than 800 vehicles per hour, and that would still be pushing it. If your volume exceeds that now, then you would have traffic diversion somewhere upstream or downstream.

I mean, for me it's that the guy is clearly on drugs. Us normies that are over here living a drug free life and just barely making it economically have to suffer these addled fuckheads having immense power over the economy and our lives... Send the DEA after him (and Don Jr.)

I, for one, welcome any "Eastern" film or series. We've got an abundance of depictions of the 1870s-1900 of the Western U.S., but hardly any depictions of what was going on back east, which was a time of incredible urban and cultural development.

I don't want to have to tell experts what they should fix to make kids safer, I just want them to be experts who diligently fix safety problems at an accelerating rate, and without compromises for driver convenience.

I do think in those circles, it may not occur to them that $390k is not a typical salary. They think it’s a big sacrifice to not do a 3 week international vacation once or twice a year.

I only renewed when they gave me the $4 per month deal to keep me from canceling, and I’m realizing I got the worse end of that deal. They should have to pay me to read it. Old habits die hard, but it is not the same paper since Bezos took over.

A thing that is also true of DC is that it has long been ground zero for political violence in the US, and 99% of the time, it has nothing to do with the people who live in DC. People travel there, sometimes from around the world, to commit acts of political violence to emphasize their point.
