From the start, I was suspicious because the likely unnamed “third-party service provider” (PAXWorld) showed no evidence of a cybersecurity incident.

Organizations often reassure the public with phrases like "no evidence data was accessed." This explains why those statements reveal so little.

New editorial: Local TV in Ohio and Texas “broke” ransomware stories they only saw because I reported them first. Why “as first reported by…” matters for small outlets, public records, and cyber coverage.
