Medieval Ireland to modern Ireland, without the myths.
𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. 𝐎𝐫𝐥𝐚 is a transliteration of Órfhlaith. Ór is the Irish word for gold/golden and flaith is a ruler/princess. The h in Irish is a séimhiú meaning that the preceding letter (consonant) has to be softened. So, Orla is a near rendering of Or-lay, the correct Irish pronunciation.

𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐲, 𝐲𝐚 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐠! Ireland’s most popular surname Murphy, comes from Murchadh, meaning “sea warrior”. Another strand traces it to Murchú/Muirchú, “hound of the sea”, a rare early medieval name most famously borne by Muirchú, biographer of St Patrick. Today, most Murphy's are found in Co. Cork!
