The new admin will undoubtedly accuse CA of not caring for its forests properly. However, 46% of CA’s total land area is owned by the feds and managed by the US Forest Service. The San Gabriel Mts encompasses over 450,000 acres of federally managed land, primarily within the Angeles Nat’l Forest.

Speaker Johnson wants to put conditions on federal emergency aid to CA. CA pays $292.6 billion in federal taxes annually but receives less in federal spending, with a net contribution of $83 billion more than it gets back. California subsidizes much of the United States - red states in particular.
