Involved in some ethnozoology research and was wondering if there are any entomologists or insect enthusiasts out there who would like to try and identify the species seen on this ancient Mayan vase? Credit and attribution will be given to any responses we end up using.

In a high school biology class a student said, "We need to solve human problems not Earth problems." In response to our coral reefs, "Let them be. They can take care of themselves. They will go extinct regardless of what we do..." They don't seem to get that Earth problems ARE human problems. 🍎

Reading about Texas' new Bible-based curriculum reminds me of my time teaching second grade in California. Our reading curriculum had a unit on fossils, but 3 of the 6 second-grade teachers at my school taught a stripped-down version because they didn't "believe in dinosaurs."

Sometimes evolution favors cooperation. On Bahamian reefs, Nassau and tiger groupers hunt cooperatively.

As far as I could find, there is no research on this interaction in scientific literature. We overlook so many things about fish behavior by studying them removed from their ecosystem.

Few people know this: half of the world's energy use is for heat used in buildings and industry.

And almost all of it is from burning fossil fuels.

That's why we need to decarbonise heat if we want to stand a chance of meeting our climate targets.
