This was sold recently as "Wharfedale Farm" by John Cooper which is undated but might very possibly his exhibited painting of "Farm" from the Group's fifth show at Lefevre in November/December 1933. #JohnCooper #Wharfedale #Yorkshire #EastLondonGroup

Good evening, Steve @squaremileguide.bsky.social & how interesting, thank you. St Mark's seems to have inspired two or three members of the Group (Elwin painted it at least twice as did Harold Steggles). This version of "St Mark's Church" is by Harold Steggles from 1934. #HaroldSteggles

This is one of my favourite paintings by Elwin Hawthorne: "Wick Lane" from 1930. It was once owned by Sir David Scott & it was sold @Sothebys in November 2008. I have included Elwin's painting notes for interest. #ElwinHawthorne #EastLondonGroup

With Autumn now seemingly upon us, I thought that this one of "Essex Landscape, Early Morning" by Walter Steggles from 1938 might be appropriate. The rising mist is just the sort of thing that one might see at this time of year. In the background one can see the Chappel Viaduct. #WalterSteggles

2/2 the Labour MP for Bethnal Green: North East in 1936 & Albert Turpin went on to become the Labour Mayor of Bethnal Green in 1946 so I can only imagine that the newspaper was quoting something which Dan Chater MP had said at a public meeting or something similar: who knows?

Good morning @dreamingcrone.bsky.social & thank you. From what I can see from research online, the "Blackshirt" newspaper was only published for a short period of time from 1933 to 1936. To be honest, this poster has always confused me. It comes from Albert's family archives. Dan Chater was 1/2

This is "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from the first Group show at Alex. Reid & Lefevre in 1929 where it could have been yours for 8 Guineas (£8.40!)!! It is in the collection at Brighton & Hove Museums. #CecilOsborne #SundayMorning #EastLondonGroup

Today is the 89th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street so here's "Cable Street" by Albert Turpin from his post-war work, most likely to mid to late 1950s. This is actually a view of Grace's Alley, just off Cable Street. #AlbertTurpin #BattleofCableStreet #EastLondonGroup

Well, here we are again: another #SaturdayMorning has arrived! In the time-honoured manner, here's "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930 to start the day & week-end. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup

Good morning, Anand @calmerfuture.bsky.social & thank you. If you've seen it at an ELG exhibition, it would have been at the Beecroft Gallery in Southend in either 2016 or 2021-2022. I have attached photos from both exhibitions herewith. Thanks for supporting our exhibitions too.

With named storm Amy #StormAmy in the news this morning, maybe this one of "Windy Day on Marine Parade, Southend" by Brynhild Parker from 1930 might be appropriate. It is in the collection at the Beecroft Gallery in Southend. Originally exhibited as just "Southend", the modified title is perfect.

This is "The Church at Cranham" by Lilian Leahy from 1934. Lilian married Elwin Hawthorne in 1937 & usually exhibited one or two paintings each year throughout their eight year exhibiting career. #LilianLeahy #EastLondonGroup

This is "The Mill" by Phyllis Bray from 1933. It was painted in Chalford in Gloucestershire & it is a view of a section of the Thames & Severn Canal near Ballinger's Lock. Sadly, shortly before this was painted, the canal between Chalford & Inglesham was abandoned in 1927 & the remainder in 1933

This is "Bosham" by Walter Steggles from his post-war work, most likely, c.1975. It is one of a selection of pieces by ELG artists which is coming up for sale at Dreweatts in Newbury on 29th October from lot Nos.350-357 here:- tinyurl.com/y3bzuks7. Prices vary across the lots from £100-£2000

This is "Anemones" by Archibald Hattemore from 1931 which was the last Group exhibition that he showed his work. It is in the collection at Wolverhampton Art Gallery #ArchibaldHattemore #EastLondonGroup

Thank you, Fiontan @fiontanfleming.bsky.social How interesting that you were brought up on a farm in Sussex. Amongst the Group members, serval of them painted in Sussex so here's "Sussex Farm" by Cecil Osborne from c.1935. I have often tried to identify the location of the farm but without success.

My pleasure @theunhurriedreader.bsky.social The church is one of the "round tower" churches of East Anglia & Essex. It is St Mary's church in Great Leighs in Essex & I'm very pleased to say that it is still there, as you'll see from my photo of the scene from 2015.

Good morning, Fiontan @fiontanfleming.bsky.social & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. How interesting to hear that your daughter likes those colours: hopefully, she might find something similar in this little watercolour of "Near Navestock" by Elwin Hawthorne from the mis 1930s.

Good morning @theunhurriedreader.bsky.social & thank you. Yes, "In the good old days" on Twitter I started posting "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" each #SundayMorning in June 2014 so it has become quite a "fixture" for many people. Here's one I hope you'll like: "Great Leighs" by Walter Steggles

Here's our traditional start to #SundayMorning: "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from 1929. It is in the collection at Brighton Museums. Cecil had seen the East London Art Club's show at the Whitechapel in 1928 & then applied to join the evening art classes in 1929. #CecilOsborne

Good morning, Jan @janjonesauthor.bsky.social & thank you. Yes, the change of month is almost upon us & the change of season has already taken hold. Here's a "memory" of summer in "Littleton Panell" by Walter Steggles from his post-war work: most likely the early 1980s. #WalterSteggles #Wiltshire

I can't quite believe that this is the last #SaturdayMorning of September already: where does the time go: who knows?! In the usual manner, here's our traditional start to the day & week-end: this is "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup

This is "Cafe Barbare, Camden" by Murroe Fitzgerald from 1928. It is in the collection @HepworthGallery. Despite numerous attempts to track down the origin location for this painting in Camden, I have drawn a blank. I'd love to know where it might have been. #MurroeFitzgerald #EastLondonGroup

This is an untitled landscape by John Cooper that I believe might actually be his painting of "The Road to Snowdon" from 1936, judging by other works of his that I have seen & his catalogue listings from that year. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
