Cute Xmas cups from #caffenero best thing about this coffee. I ordered the seasonal blend which was a disappointing cup of bitter and aroma free coffee. Easily could have been better, expected it to be at least drinkable.

How to deter tourists and alienate your neighbours. I was a bit worried walking through this area. Will stick to cosmopolitan cities.

My weekend reading is this delightful cookbook by Jocasta Innes, The pauper’s Cookbook. Written in 1971 and updated and revised in 2003. The name was a sort of 70’s joke but there’s no denying that the recipes will suit the current cost of living crisis. Some might be frugal but it’s not basic.

This is what paw paw looks like in Asia, the Caribbean, Australia, South Africa. The tree and leaves are completely different, the fruit is in 2nd image. Also called papaya. In North America there is a completely different fruit called the same name.

Recipe ideas please. There are tons of apples, both eating and cooking ones. Any ideas for what to do with them?

Not sloes, more like small plums.
August 29, 2025 at 1:49 PM
@salutethepig.berlin are these wild plums edible? They’re really tart. There’s loads of them.

Other things spotted in the hedgerow, some edible, some not. Besides the abundance of blackberries and tart wild plums.

Any other things I can do with sloe besides making gin? Lots to forage.

Aldi has some new products. This ‘ramen’ chicken broth (like a high street bemesnd’s). It’s a bit dark, doesn’t taste too bad for a quick noodle bowl. Viral strawberry matcha latte and a firecracker stir fry sauce 🤔
