I advocated for "All Lives Matter" because in America systemic racism effects other races like Hispanics, Asians, Indians and Natives too. For me it's got nothing to do with white people. I was labeled a white supremacist for saying that though.

See this doesn't track. I am a software engineer and I've run text and image generation models locally and they didn't take much more power than my system does when it's playing a game or something. I think the big resource draw is used in training the models, not so much in using them.

It's going to be horrendous for the environment whether we use it or not. The biggest compute usage is during training, and these companies are competing against each other to make the best one. They're going to train new models with or without users to try and "win" the race to AGI.
