Fall is my favourite season for trail running (and pretty much everything else). Unfortunately, the fallen leaves conceal a lot of tripping hazards. I did an impressive face plant this morning and had several near misses!

Finished the 2025 multi-sport season with the Barrelman half-iron distance race in Welland/Niagara Falls. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!

A bit grey and blustery today, but hard not to love a bike ride that took me to the shorelines of both Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Because you can do that on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula.

Today I ran the Falling Water Half Marathon at Beaver Valley, Ontario. Between the wild heat and the steep climbs, it was the toughest foot race I have ever done. I earned that Finisher’s medal (which is also a compass)!

NGL: I was not mentally up for my race today in Owen Sound. I am proud of myself for gutting it out anyway.
I have been racing for long enough to know that not every race will be successful (or even fun). Sometimes the best race is the one that’s over.

Had a great time this week at the @obsconf.bsky.social at Harvard.
I know that many Canadian academics are avoiding the USA (I struggled with it, too), but I thought it was important to stand in solidarity with Harvard, and it was great to connect with some of the world’s best private law scholars.

Today I did the Welland Mudskipper swim/run challenge - a race with alternating swim (4) and run (3) legs, for just over 10km in total distance. It is a fun sport and a great community (even though the water was a bit chilly this year).

Plenty of #spring green on display on the Lake Trail at Fanshawe Conservation Area in London, ON. It was my first full 20km loop of the year and a perfect day for it!

I’m in Hong Kong for a conference, and hiked the Dragon’s Back trail to Big Wave Bay. We climbed what felt like a million stairs, and my body was not ready for the humidity. (It was snowing when I left Canada on Monday.) Definitely earned the beer afterward!
