I bought it because my library didn't have, but I've requested they purchase it! Highly highly recommend. It is giving me the language for things I felt I knew but didn't have the sources and graphs to back up my opinion amongst "liberal" police-loving people.

I would say the goal is to not frequently remove errant children...both because it's not a way to teach appropriate behavior within the instructional setting and (honestly) because of staffing challenges!

That's not how this will work on the ground. Staffing one single child to be removed from an instructional environment at the drop of a hat is a logistical nightmare. Teachers will start self censoring material they use in instruction to avoid the dilemmas/ repercussions from specific parents.

So we're clear, it's not on the parents to "pull" kids out. This ruling means it's on the schools to separate & staff a child when any part of a lesson includes anything related to LGBTQ. A character in a book, a reference in a math problem, it's the school's responsibility to remove the child.

I will say, both Montgomery and PG counties police departments have refused to cooperate with ICE. But yea, call your MD state reps and tell them you're pissed! It's disgusting.

Secondly, this bill had been discussed for weeks and was finally passed minutes before the legislative session ended. There were people calling/advocating until the final minutes (literally 1130pm) and unfortunately the Sheriff's lobbied harder/faster/stronger. It was a huge disappointment.
