Can we circumvent the cumbersome filtration of #edna from seawater to detect rare taxa? Yes! Passively deploying simple cost-effective cotton membranes can, with trade-offs of course. @sednasociety.bsky.social doi.org/10.7717/peer...

And their ecological impacts are much more widespread and diverse than is often communicated. Here, I try to put the record straight. I do so while describing a recent paper of ours that introduces a new categorisation of 19 impacts types that invasive species have across ecological hierarchies.

New paper out from our crew on using #eDNA to detect the pathogenic chytrid fungus (Bsal) and characterise the surrounding amphibian community from pond samples in the Netherlands. Small number of samples but highlights the potential of eDNA for routine monitoring of both. bioone.org/journals/jou...

Proud of this new publication demonstrating #eDNA as a useful accessory to invasive species management in practice. In this case, we observed eDNA declines coinciding with community-led apple snail removal from an Austin, Texas pond. www.reabic.net/journals/mbi...

With modern DNA tools, we can act BUT policy must catch up fast!

After 4 year as a subject editor for @oikosjournal.bsky.social I am stepping away to focus more on my students and teaching. It’s been fun and educational! I’d definitely recommend it.
If anyone qualified in the #eDNA sphere is looking to be an editor, let me know and I can pass along your info.
