On this day in 2006, journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered for exposing human rights abuses and government corruption in Russia.

In an era of disinformation and intimidation, her legacy calls on all of us to defend truth, transparency, and press freedom.

🏅 Next up is The Gaza Project, coordinated by @forbidden-stories.bsky.social with 50 reporters from 13 outlets, documented Israeli attacks on Palestinian journalists. Using testimony, satellite imagery and 3D modelling, they exposed patterns of violence against the press in Gaza and the West Bank.

🏅 Our first winner is Deadly Prices (@investigate-europe.eu, @ndr.de, WDR aktuell, @szde.bsky.social, Reporters United, Eesti Ekspress & RTP) revealed why life-saving medicines are unaffordable in Europe. By calculating drug prices, the team showed how Big Pharma exploits opacity to keep costs high.
