Thinkin' about Mick Foley and the potential of him in AEW for one last angle. The guy they said could never win the big one... helping Eddie Kingston win the AEW Men's World Championship...
Eddie Kingston just lost an AEW Men’s World Championship match - he’s not sure if he’ll ever get another shot - he’s lost, thinkin’ about hangin’ up the boots for good. And then... Mick Foley shows up. “I heard you talkin’ about Terry Funk, and it brought back some old memories...” Foley, the guy they said could never win the big one - the guy that couldn’t put butts in seats - who became a four-time world champion, a hall of famer, and a hardcore legend. Mick says he sees a lot of himself in Eddie - a good bit of Terry, too - and even though Terry’s moved on, he’s still here with some wisdom to share. It’s time for Eddie to enroll in FUNK U. Meanwhile, in the Main Event scene, Maxwell Jacob Friedman - The Salt of the Earth, The Pride of Plainview, Long Island - returns and cashes in his Casino Gauntlet contract at AEW WORLD’S END and steals the AEW Men’s World Championship right out from under Swerve, Samoa Joe, and “Hangman” Adam Page. Eddie watches the match live on a TV in Mick Foley’s basement. They exchange a glance, and Mick nods. Time to train. Cut to the Yonkers version of ROCKY IV training montage. Eddie’s in an old gym in a FUNK U shirt, and Mick’s toughening him up with steel chairs to the back, barbed wire baseball bat shots to the arms and the gut. All the while, perfectly framed in the background, is a portrait of Terry Funk, watching over the proceedings. Eddie returns to AEW television to work his way back up the ranks. After his matches, he leaves the arena immediately and gets back to training with Mick. This goes on for weeks until he’s named the number one contender for the AEW Men’s World Championship. The match is set. Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. Eddie Kingston in a NEW YORK STREET FIGHT... at Madison Square Garden. In the lead-up to the match, MJF and Eddie exchange promos about fighting for the soul of New York City - MJF says Mick Foley is the biggest piece of white trash to ever come out of Long Island, etc. In a scene straigh…

I drew this the day after All In Texas. That match was so cool and gnarly to watch on PPV I’m so glad @hangmanpage.bsky.social won and got the title out away from Mox. Page is my favorite in AEW, I’ve been watching him even before AEW. I’ve watched most of ROH matches & promos. I’m so happy for him
