Yeah, mastodon’s post-mortem is currently on track to be “UX really matters, especially for onboarding”
Mastodon falls down on this - they have a public feed but it’s a mess because they don’t believe in algorithms. They show you random users but you can’t follow them quickly. These seem like minor UX differences but when they make up the key mechanic of a site, they end up mattering a LOT.
