Many countries use religion as an excuse to do whatever they want and to dumb down the people cos none of them will want to be accused of heresy, etc. So these leaders can continue to use religion as an excuse, whether they practice or not, is irrelevant.

Many countries use religion as tools to stay in power. USA is no different, now. Just hope it won't go all jihad but it does look like it might.
