Have you got meaningful goals?
As we approach 2025, we naturally begin to consider what we want to achieve. This can often begin by reflecting on 2024 and seeing what we maybe didn’t achieve. We can look at it from unhelpful angles. “I should have done that” “I failed this season” “I didn’t meet expectations” And maybe these are true. However, we often overlook a key element within this. Why do we want to reach these targets, expectations, outcomes? Are they actually meaningful for us? Or are they what we think we should be aiming for rather than what we want to aim for. As we begin to step into preseason training, it can be struggle. We need to be clear on why we are doing it. Is it solely to win something or to “fix” what happened in 2024? Are they targets that are important to you? Often we set targets are not aligned to us. Or we don’t make the connection between how these goals are aligned to us. I would suggest that this can lead to training passively. We struggle to get the most out of ourselves every session. Or are doing this because it means something important to you? I would suggest that this would lead to much more assertive training. We will be more likely to give the best we can each session, whatever that is. Over this winter, I am running a series of online workshops. The first one is titled “Mapping Out Your Season” and is designed to give you a framework to set meaningful targets for 2025 and beyond. By having goals that are meaningful to you, you provide yourself with a perfect base to chase the goals that you actually want to achieve. If it sounds like something you are interested in or, or if you just have more questions… Reply to this email with “MAP” and I will send you over more details. Thanks, Eddy
