There’s no subtractive or additive it moves all the parameters around, if you do a LoRA (although that’s for post training usually) it’s just restricts the parameters moving over a submanifold

You can buy 16gb of optane for like $4 on AliExpress

Deepseek on huawei, Google sells inference only TPUs. Inference is a lot easier to make than training and it’s cheaper to serve users with these cheaper chips than to have them running on expensive TPUs and Nvidia chips.

Apple runs all their model on their own chips btw

Well that idea is highly disturbing or outright blasphemous to most people. If you’re religious you generally believe in a soul, but even then most people generally dont want to think whether or not their brain is a chemical representation of the solution to a differential equation.

These people don’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things. Scientists are going to do their jobs and research things like this as long as they’re funded.

You’re supposed to spend 8 hours a day deal hunting on Facebook marketplace instead of working a productive job

God explicitly punishes Solomon for having 700 wives and 300 concubines. The theology on polyamory isn’t good.

It’s super fast, and just about as stupid as the other ones so it’s just dumb faster

Correct me if I'm wrong but drinking water doesn't usually come from springs but rather from the water table, which is basically from the ground. It gets replenished over time when it rains, but it's possible to use more than however much is replenished, and if it runs out then idk what happens

What's strange to me is that Claude, Meta's AI and even Grok don't have as big of a body count as ChatGPT (if any?), I know ChatGPT is the biggest LLM but it still seems disproportionate.

it has a built in X the everything app and grok button

Nah Luke Smith shouldn’t get a pass, he’s extremely racist and probably has worse takes than DHH, he’s an example of someone whose bigotry ruined his own life.

I saw a short of a blind person who was talking about how useful the ChatGPT video/voice mode was. Makes sense but a lot of people were criticizing proponents because they were putting words in disabled people’s mouths.

Yeah they believe in a soul without realizing unfortunately

Electricity usage is only for projected necessities though, from what I understand the datacenters don't use that much electricity per user. An H200 is comparable to using a 5090 in terms of power usage, and AI workloads don't last as long as a gaming session.

This is never going to happen because of ideological reasons but I feel like social science experiments should be ran by an LLM before running them on a person sort of how physicists run experiments in simulations before spending millions on machines.

And mastodon existed before Bluesky, the model of decentralization is different between them, although I agree that fediverse suits Reddit a lot more than twitter.

Notice how people say it, WE went to the moon and not NASA went to the moon. At least for publicly funded science this is true as people paid for it with their taxes.
October 8, 2025 at 8:08 PM
You need this shared responsibility and achievement with the general public for publicly funded science otherwise people will ask why Portuguese people are dropping a trillion dollars for a hole in Switzerland. I’m not sure if this should generally extend to privately funded science.
