Like, I'm really not against microblogging as an idea, but I think it might be worth it to place less emphasis on the 'micro' part. I view that as less "making it not a microblogging site" and more giving the microblogging site some decent medication

This sort of argument probably would've made more sense in 2009, but the fact is that microblogging in its 'purest' form is now producing a lot things that I wouldn't at all describe as magical, and I don't think it's easy to mitigate that stuff without loosening those constraints a bit

My ideal solution would be to raise the character limit to 500 and maybe add something like Leaflet embeds. Imo this would be less so getting rid of the microblogging format and more so giving it some medication

Good start, though I think it would be better to focus more on the mental health aspects of closed social rather than just ads and privacy. I think "imagine social but it doesn't actively make you feel miserable" could actually be a great selling point for a lot of people

I have a feeling that most people would end up calling it just 'AT' really. I honestly can't really imagine 'ATProto' managing to catch on in the mainstream

I wouldn't really have a problem if you added the ability to view Bsky comments, but I would suggest not prioritizing it so heavily like the OP wants. The idea that microblogging is an "outstanding meta-platform for blog comments" is something that I just don't really agree with

It feels like both are some of the few to still understand that most people just want to use browsers to, ya know, browse the internet

People who say stuff like this simply have an extremely poor understanding of how the internet works

Something like simple hashtag functionality would be good enough imo

Honestly, I find that not suffering from too much copyright brain and using Soulseek/Nicotine makes not using music streaming services easier than other people seem to find it. I sometimes use NewPipe for music and that's pretty much it

I love when stuff like this is made by actual music lovers and not a disgustingly cynical corporation

I love how they assume moving posts would actually be pretty important to most people
