David, I sense this was a busy day for jazz. Love your reach and taste. You have introduced me to some great music and reminded me of pieces I need to revisit.

He's an excellent defender and has a big boot. Lacks speed and guile, though. I think he looks more like a bench utility, best suited in the middle.

This is true. Almost impossible to despise everyone on this list. There are lots of good writers and scholars there, even if the letter was terrible.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have read all his books, but 'Original
Copy', his first collection of reviews, is a favourite. No-one could creat such a vivid picture of a book in 1000 words.

Great interview. Thanks for reposting it (and writing it in the first place, of course).

Talked some sense and did not repeat himself three times every over. No future.

What an album! Freddie was so amazing on so many albums in this period.

The closing of the bridge is very frustrating. They do it whenever the Metro is not running. Why?

Great call. Not my favourite Herbie, but a barnburner all the same.

Bernard Knox, whose final collection of essays was 'Backing into the Future' provides some detail.

This is fantastic. I'm also a great admirer of Kipling (with the same reservations, of course) and Tony Harrison. Loved the stuff about the Georgics, too. Many thanks.
