Retired copy editor, having worked for one trade magazine 3/2002 to 12/2024 and other now-dead trade magazines before that. Terminal oncology patient since 5/2018. Photographer, glass artist, and fan of both live music and all four seasons. (he/his)
A friend remembers:

“Years ago, I was driving down the Kennedy when the Blue Line came back up from underground and Santa was holding on for dear life, his beard and hair flying wildly around. I thought no matter WHAT they were paying him, it wasn't nearly enough!”

(We are both big fans of it.)

I think I remember that you were in Minneapolis earlier this year and posted some really nice photos; if you visit again, this one is worth a look-see, if the wind chill isn't -7 and maybe there's even some sunlight. It should be on Street View using that intersection, in the meantime.

A while back in a post here I mentioned I’d spend more time here if there was a magic button that hid all the posts about whatever was trending at the moment.

“Why would you want to do that?” everyone said, thinking it was a rhetorical question.

We were watching it on streaming video last night. Another one on Friday, probably at night, hoping it doesn't affect her afternoon flight

I’ll add a trigger warning for Little Nemo, because one continuing character was a racial stereotype. McCay’s art was breathtaking, though. Krazy Kat featured gender-fluid characters in a visually surreal land, and @tisserand.bsky.social wrote a great biography about Herriman just a few years ago.

Lots of new stuff here. How about Little Nemo in Slumberland, which used a full broadsheet page to its best advantage every Sunday, and the equally inventive Krazy Kat, same but different.

Finally a place where “No shirt, no shoes” was a requirement for ordering and not a demand to leave

NGL, after Aquatennial this summer, I risked missing a bus home to get this photo. Every time I see the building, I see more photos waiting to happen.

I just saw “Flow” again on Sunday and there’s a scene where this happens. Thanks for the explanation, which brings a lot of context to the moment in the movie.

I like when you do a word frequency count and start finding oblique little poems.

After my home city of Chicago, Austin’s best represented in my photo gallery. Wonderfully colorful and visual city. I picked up a panoramic film camera recently, and I’d love to use it there, especially with something like CineStill 800T at dusk.
