Our first night in Japan and I found a brewery a couple of minutes from our hotel, because of course I did. We had the WC IPA, Galaxy hazy, and pastry stout. This place was fun and had a cool atmosphere.

We got to our hotel in Nippori a couple of hours ago, and Karen asked me to find a place to eat. I picked a little place close by called Inaba, and it was amazing. We got sashimi, Nagasaki ray fin, grilled veg, tempura, and sake. The perfect first meal in Japan!

Just hit three months of learning Japanese with a combo of Duolingo, Genki, and a Kanji app. I know about 950 words, and 100+ Kanji. I wonder how much I can learn in the next six months before we go to Japan. #japanese #learningjapanese #languagelearning

I got a couple of crappy phone shots of these male goldfinches on our balcony. The other birds that visit are OK with my presence, but if the goldfinches even see me move in the living room, they freak out and leave immediately. #goldfinch #songbird #birdwatching

I've reached the point in learning Japanese where you actually like learning new Kanji, because reading long sentences made of just Hirigana is a pain in the ass, as it's hard to tell where one word ends and the other starts. I finally get it! #Japanese #nihongo #language #kanji #hirigana

We just paid $1000 extra to change our Japan Airline tickets to have a layover in Vancouver, BC, instead of Seattle. We don't want to risk them going through our phones and barring entry based on our political views. That country is cooked. #japan

I wish I could sleep as soundly as my guineapigs. Instead, I'm up every hour from anxiety dreams, then need to pee before I go back to sleep. To be fair, they just pee and poop while they lie down. I don't think my girlfriend would like that. #guineapig #kavee #モラモシト

Oh boy, I reached the diamond league on #Duolingo after two months and people in here are a different breed. I thought I spent a lot of time learning, but the top 3 have 35K xp this week alone. I guess they're just gamifying the hell out if it... or running an AI to farm xp.

These cute little pine siskins started showing up at my feeder, now the weather is warming up a bit. I can't say I've noticed them before. They look halfway between a house finch and a goldfinch. Crappy phone pictures, because I couldn't be bothered to grab the good camera. #bird #finch #pinesiskin
