If enjoyment is your goal, there is no good reason to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on staying up to date.

Maybe another commenter here would say that I was unqualified to teach those 6 sessions of 35 students. I probably -was- unqualified to redraft the English curriculum for no compensation as non-tenure track faculty. Didn't stop it from landing on my plate.

This was not my experience teaching at an HBCU.
If I said there was an effort to have me fired from that position and replaced by a black woman mentee, who shared this plan with me before she quit due to it, I imagine I would be yelled down on this platform. 1/2

Pedagogically speaking, by structuring student engagement with the tool the teacher can model appropriate application. By requiring students use it in a specific, guided way, they can guide the way it is used as opposed to not addressing the stinky elephant in the classroom.
