As part of the NASA Sea Level Change Team we've been working on characterizing this risk. We've been focusing on Pacific island nations, but we're working on expanding this database!

I've always found it interesting how the Netherlands is full of coaches, for almost every aspect of life it seems.

Grew up in/near The Hague and went to university in Delft. Both cities have great infrastructure for cycling, which is the default mode of transport, especially in the city centers. Went to Paris recently and was pleasantly surprised by the biking infrastructure! I’d add Barcelona to the list too.

Or the diverging red-white-blue color scheme when the center is rather arbitrary, like a map of percentage change for different states/countries between 3% and 61% and the color map is centered at 32% which doesn't necessarily mean anything.
A red-white-blue diverging color bar.

Today at 10:01 CET the Sun was directly above Earth’s equator, marking the #SpringEquinox! 🌸
At this moment, our planet is neither tilted towards nor away from the Sun, creating nearly equal day/night. 🌓
This stunning image was captured by our Meteosat-12 satellite. 🛰️

ICESat-2 fired its TWO TRILLIONTH laser shot last weekend, and it hit off the coast of East Antarctica, right by Australia’s Casey station! Yay for @thenasaearth.bsky.social and all the incredible satellites we have monitoring planet Earth for the benefit of humanity…

I see this not just in climate change policy, but in many other areas too, like shortage of affordable housing, immigration and retirement age/demographics here in NL (and elsewhere). A lot of solutions suck in the short term, which makes them unpopular with politicians who work on ~4 year cycles.

PS great meeting you yesterday!

I mostly agree with this sentiment; I do think there’s value in talking to “competing” efforts at places like AGU, as that’s a great way to find out what you may have been forgetting. There has to be a way for this without the competitive side which might lead to secrecy and closed doors.

And that’s a wrap on #AGU24! So good seeing old friends and making new ones!
Thanks to all who came to my poster on Wednesday and great to see our SWOT work make it into the slides for the town hall too, what a revolutionary satellite for measuring sea level and estuaries right on the coast.

He founded his finance company in 1999 when he was ~16 and then founded Draken in 2012. He got his degree in 2011. My guess is that he got it to have at least some kind of (aerospace) credential for his jet training company.

First post here on BlueSky! Looking forward to #AGU24 next week where I'll present my work on the impacts of future sea level change on Pacific Islands! Come find me Wednesday morning at poster G31B-3351 or at the NASA Sea Level Change Team Town Hall.

According to his Wikipedia page he "attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Worldwide Campus, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Professional Aeronautics."
I'm more worried about his lack of policy experience, but only time will tell. Bridenstine turned out to be pretty good tbh.

The “pin to home” feature is incredibly useful! Looking forward to #AGU24!

"I can hear the objections now — you can’t eat the tuition subsidy. That argument is fallacious. The above six-figure salary is real."
But it's not. And the tuition subsidy really just becomes some magical, invisible number when you're done with classes and all you do is research.
