Living in Wilmington, Delaware with my wife, 5 year old son, 21 yr old nib, and two cats. Uses data to fight fraud at a bank during the day. Uses Steam Deck to kill monsters at night. He/Him
This shit is embarrassing. The whole point of Gen X is we weren’t special. A proper challenge coin for the 90s would be the letter X in Times New Roman on one side and blank on the other.

Need to run an ad campaign on Fox News talking about how Warfarin is like upgrading your blood from cheap engine oil to synthetic. Ask your doctor today!

Even if it were ok to blame Americans collectively for imperialist shenanigans (and it certainly isn’t), none of the people with moral standing to do so are English.

Unless I’m intervening to coach a Model UN team. Then my high school experience would be quite relevant! But only for the funky Puerto Rican league version.

I had exceptional SAT scores. And from age 20 to 35 I was a shitty employee no one should have ever hired for a position of import. Today at 46 I’m quite good at many things, but anyone who thinks that’s directly correlated to my accomplishments as a teenager is dumb and wrong.

I’m increasingly in favor of making companies strictly liable for what their chatbots say. If I can convince grok to say X owes me $1M, Elon should be forced to put a check in the mail.

Now you are not limited to law enforcement resources but the supply of eager lawyers and angry parents. And even if there are defenses, the grind of the lawsuits would be crippling. They could even add exceptions to corporate liability limitations. Make a PE firm jointly liable for killing teens.

One way to make them significant is make it much easier and more lucrative to sue. Laws saying the minimum penalty for letting your AI create CSAM of your child is $1M per image, and if a person commits suicide within 24 hrs of using a genAI bot they owe the family/estate $5M.

My ‘personal network’ consists entirely of people I have worked with who moved on to different things but I spent enough time together that we would be happy to reconnect on a whim. Any other type of ‘networking’ has been a stupid and gross waste of time.

I was on a call where we were discussing how liability for credit card transactions will work if a customer asks the agent to reorder dog food and ends up with a 100 lbs of ground beef overnighted from Argentina for $15k or something. It was distressingly complicated and ambiguous.

In this case isn’t the first amendment literally protecting the professor from experiencing consequences for his actions?

To be fair, in MOST fields being an asshole is a fireable offense. There are lots of jobs where people can get away with being an ass thanks to the perceived benefit of their work, but I can’t think of many where the right to be an ass is enshrined in the constitution.

My son reports seeing sparks in the distance, so some kind of firework but not necessarily a return of the dynamite guy.

It’s weird how much of my online (and a bit of offline!) life to this day can be traced to time spent on the Warren Ellis Forum in the early 2000’s.

All, actually. The man in the story was born in Germany. While their animus is rooted in racism, racking up numbers to boost deportation numbers and freelance cruelty in general are also key motivators.

It profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world, but for Wales, Charlie Brown?

That sounds like a good way to attract controversy and mess up your future right wing grifts, sinecures, and other perks of being a former congress member.
These are Republican members of Congress in 2025; if they were decent people they would have never taken the gig in the first place.

This man is my hero. If ICE starts increasing activity in New Castle County I’m calling this guy for tips. And getting a Vespa (I don’t know if I’m cool enough to chase ICE agents on a Segway).

I didn’t have any particular urge to rewatch it at the moment but now that you’ve told me it’s not streaming I have a burning desire to binge the entire thing! BSG should be available at all times.
