Every educator deserves a living wage.

Kudos to the St. Francis teachers and parents who spoke in support of a raise for educational assistants -- many of whom work second jobs or rely on public assistance. They are "the backbone of inclusive education." #mnleg #edmnvotes

The teacher pay penalty has hit a record high.

Salary gains in the last bargaining cycle helped, but Minnesota teachers still earn 34% less than workers w/a similar education level. We're pushing for legislation to make up for decades of leaving educators behind. #mnleg #edmnvotes

The gap between teacher pay and other college graduates’ pay is the highest it’s been in over four decades.

Is there a “teacher shortage,” or a shortage of jobs that treat educators with the pay, dignity, and support they deserve?

In 2024, teachers earned 73 cents for every dollar their similarly educated peers made, on average. A record low.

In 1996, the gap was much smaller: 94 cents to the dollar. We can fix this—by investing in public education.

The full report from @epi.org lays bare the challenge—and the solution.
