Douglas Adams wrote Shada in 1979 and the DW serial was only half-filmed and then shelved due to industrial action. Dirk Gently re-uses the character of Reg Chronotis and the setting of St. Cedds college, but there is also the plot of City of Death and a load of stuff inspired by Douglas' real life
