I know a Russian family who came here via the Mexican border. When I told others the story, they said it was "good" they made it here and escaped Russia. I asked why it was "good" for them and but not a family from a Latin American country who made the same trek under similar circumstances. 🤔

Maybe it's because I'm near Chicago and see people's firsthand accounts of how ICE treats people, and how Texas dealt with border patrol by shipping people here with no plan for the city to figure out. Maybe I'm just a bleeding heart. But I'd rather be that than have no heart.

My father is one of those +2. I told him I'm more concerned with people getting tear gassed in the street and held in inhumane conditions than whether or not they "scam the healthcare system," but apparently the economics of it are more important to him than basic human decency. It's disgusting.
