When power and profit are your goals, then the behavior of these companies becomes understandable. Not justifiable but understandable.

Everyone should be playing the infinite game (ie things progress and evolve as everyone contributes and "wins" and the players will come and go (humans are born and die) rather than the finite game of "winners and losers."
