East Essex Hackspace is a charity hackerspace in Hawkwell, Essex, UK: a community-run workshop where people come to share tools and knowledge.
Less fun was 'peeling' the heatsink designed for a front to back cooled server chassis so a more conventional cooling fan could be attached. Once that was done a fan shroud was printed and Steve was able to install Bazzite Linux on the SSD he'd fitted. Next job will be to make a case at the 'space.

There's been a bit of buzz recently about using cheap AMD BC250 boards from AliExpress to build a DIY "Steam Machine" for gaming. It's not going to be a patch on the real thing but Trustee Steve picked one up for a fun project. First job was to get the BIOS flashed and this was pretty easy!

Tuesday night is Social Night from 19:30. Recently we've added a few more crafting things: a dedicated printer for dye sublimation inks to use with our heat press and a Cricut to complement our large roll fed drag cutter.

Nick is testing the ODrive for our Hacky Racer. Hopefully third time's the charm as the donated one was kaput and then the first one we bought would crowbar the PSU on channel 1. This is the first time we've had both motors spinning for the new twin motor setup.

This afternoon Nick replaced the sunroof of his car, which shattered unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. He sourced a whole unit from a breakers, removed the panel, vacuumed up most of the lurking glass shards and bolted it in place. Not complicated but the EEH car park is a decent place to work.

Brewing at the space today! This is a clone of the Siren "Sound Wave" IPA. We also enjoyed some of the beer from the last brewing session.

This petrol strimmer wasn't starting due to an HT lead fault but now it's going.
June 8, 2025 at 11:04 AM
The spout stay on this watering can has detached making the spout fragile. Thin to weld and it's galvanised so we're going to try soldering it.

Ah, fan heaters another repair you see a lot.
June 8, 2025 at 10:17 AM
This pressure washer failed with no obvious fault so might need a little investigation.

We're going to try and fill the damage in this boat propeller with weld and grind it back. It's taken quite a smack.
