Mark Twain's _Roughing It_ was first published February 28 1872. While slightly flawed by today's standards, 90% of it is still a great read. Here's Twain "riding" the Genuine Mexican Plug. I couldn't find a good enough illustration of my favorite part, the night the tarantulas got loose ...

Andre Norton was born February 17 1912. One of the greats in her chosen field, she pioneered many Science Fiction concepts which are now standard themes. I was lucky enough to meet her and even chat with her over a leisurely breakfast. I still read and reread her books with pleasure.
