Creative hot take: I've never liked the "characters need to die for a story to be mature" mindset. Character death should feel like a natural, impact full part of a story, not like a box that needs to be checked off. Also, death isn't the only mature subject.

There are so many better works of magic school fiction (ie. Owl House, Little Witch Academia) out there that aren't putting money in the pockets of an unrelenting bigot. The series has put out next to nothing decent in years. Let it go.
