The lunch pail scene from Return to Oz delighted my childhood neurons, and has been a recurring symbol in my dreams ever since. For the record, they contain:

A ham sandwich
A slice of cake
A pickle
A slice of cheese
An apple

All of it delicious, according to Dorothy.

Finally implemented the "look ahead" feature for the ghosts. In the original arcade port of Pac-Man, if the ghosts intend to take a turn at an intersection, a few pixels before they reach said intersection, they will look in the direction they intend to turn.

If you're gonna do retro dev, might as well have a retro dev video and sound system.

Currently playing Air Zonk's soundtrack. So sweet.

While it's not modern, I began porting Pac-Man to the PCE/Tg16. It's about 60% done. All the mechanics are there except for Iwatani's painstaking AI adjustments. It's still more complete than most other 8-bit ports because mine implements cornering and ghost look-ahead for intersections.

I sure do love New York-style pizza. Problem is you need an oven that can do 650F to really do the job right and most home ovens -- especially those furnished to apartments top out at 500F. So I bought a commercial oven off Amazon.

Yes, that 150F makes a hell of a difference.

Counterpoint

Sometimes they cheat too

(And in all fairness, this isn't the first time Ravenloft's artwork was outright swiped. Looking at you, Konami.

Yes, THAT Konami.)

Not quite my doing, but one of my comics was used to start this thread. I don't know if it's the case now, but back then, you needed an image to start any thread on 4chan, even if the thread was for a video.

Also, this little folding drawing desk thingy is obligatory. Amazon has them. These things are even great on planes, provided the person you're setting next to isn't an annoying rapt audience.

My port of Pac-Man to the Turbografx-16 is coming alone.

Is Macaulay Culkin on Bluesky? He'd approve, I'm sure. Anyway, Now you can eat dots and it scores and this took over 1000 lines of C and assembly.

To keep the arcade-accurate maze, I implemented a slight scroll function for up/down.

You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.

Pictured: literal asylum, literally me. (On the right.)

This being the same society of cartoonists who, a few decades later, responded to webcomics with a corresponding level of spit, venom, and hatred. Thanks to @ironspike.bsky.social for saving this example of Hi & Lois -- Hi & fucking LOIS -- mocking others for daring to attempt what they do.

So anyway I've been porting Pac-Man to the Turbografx-16

It's coming along

Long story short, my Surface Pro X developed bad pixels and thanks to me purchasing the extended warranty, I got a newer Surface Pro and enough left over to buy this 75" TV. Which I never watch movies or TV or anything on.

Except 4K live webcams of Tokyo, though. This runs 24/7.

If you notice, all these future concepts always retain depressingly current-day styles and sensibilities. For this obviously late-70s conception, it still retains the dull-yellow and brown swatch of that era. For the 1900s, they envisioned flying cars. With women still wearing corsets and bonnets.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who appreciates Showa-era consumer branding sensibilities.

Pic very related. WIP.

Oh fucking hell I just Poe's Law'd myself
July 26, 2024 at 4:40 PM
Oh, they help. They help a lot. They help so much that they dominated NASCAR wins during the late 60's seasons so many times that they had to implement strict rules limiting them (the "Wing War"), which immediately threw them out of use as quickly as they appeared. Pic very, very related.

Here is one of his murdered victims, Cpl Marie France Comeau CAF. Cpl Comeau was directly underneath Russell's command in the military, who trusted her life and well-being to him every time they took off in a plane he was piloting.
