Are you one of those people who still use pens/pencils on paper as a complement to digital notes? Do you, on top of that, like my artwork? If so I have just the thing for you! Radioactive...no, not that again... Normal notebooks available at Amazon

I have a colleague who worked with Gaia!

As you say, it's not "progress" – it's greed, idiocy and unsustainable exploitation.

It'll never cease to piss me off that people have known for over half a century that this would happen but still no real action has ever been taken. Only futile talks that ever only end up people worrying about what it would do to the world economics if changes were to be made. 🤬

The Great Space Whale! 😀

Don't worry, it's a wooden sword. He has a real light sabre somewhere in his hammerspace but currently he's dressed as another kind of knight and hasn't found any tiny blacksmiths yet. ;)

–Who'd have thought that we'd be able to use this old equipment to get messages directly relayed to us in the field! Anything new?
-Just an invitation from the Kepler station...to a Monty Python's Holy Grail themed party. Ehm..
–Let's not go there. It's a silly place.

And that's just why I try to do it as much as I can. When multitasking I tend to fail, though. ;)

Oh, I obviously misread more than I thought. It hasn't arrived yet. Well, let's hope for a speedy arrival!

You live in a huge country. I'd do the same if Europe was one country but it's not. By the way I think that Aus is the place to be right now... nether US nor Russia threatens you?

I first read that as JSTW. 😅 So, you have a clear night tonight?

–Be quiet, Aldrich!
–Remind me why we have harpoons on this station? Or even more importantly, how does Cadwell know how to use them?
–I dunno... Maybe he was hunting dangerous animals back in Australia?
–Give me strength...

–Yes, yes, I know it's my fault that the garbage is now floating around in space but fear not – Reyes and Cadwell are harpooning is all back as we speak and the latter certainly has a talent for it!
–Captain, according to protocol the creation of space debris...

I had a feeling that you were. ;)

I and those I work with would have been fine as we would have been inside the visitor's centre but the telescope guides and geo people outside would not. Not to mention the majority of the visitors.

I'm not trying that at all but _if_ we'd just said "fuck the storm, let's do this anyway" the risk is quite big that no one would have showed up to participate. There's more than a slight risk for that part of the peninsula to be soaked in seawater.

It really sucks. The plan is to postpone it and try again on October 18th or 25th.

I follow a group like that as well but they haven't posted anything about auroras lately so I guess they haven't been visible from Gothenburg lately.
eggstronomer.bsky.social
I was just thinking the same! This is the first time I've experienced something like this being cancelled due to a storm but it's still so damn typical. Bleh!
Hmm... No auroras visible here as far as I know but I'm sometimes bad at keeping track on when they're supposed to show up.

Also, the 25 meter dish is very old and even normal days you shouldn't go near it as stuff might fall off from it. In a storm actual parts could fall off. It's happened before.

It sucks indeed!
Partially outdoors with some indoors activities (like mine) but the thing is that the observatory is on the edge of a peninsula where storms usually hit quite hard (and sometimes damage the smaller telescopes) so it wouldn't be safe. We'll have to postpone it.
