I credit my Mom for what is good in me. She protected my life, she’s my hero, and she inspires me to this day. Love ya, Ma.

She did most of her teaching in high schools, focusing first on Home Economics (that used to be a thing, kids!), where she shared her knowledge in the domestic arts. Later, she would take on the full range of high school sciences for grades 8-12.

In spite of that treatment, or perhaps because of it, considering her stubborn streak, she has always been a caring and giving educator. She always had a way with insecure kids, and found ways to help many through abusive situations.

She raised me on her own, having divorced my father during a time when it was much more scandalous for a woman to do so. She dealt with bullshit from institutions like her bank and contempt from some of the more conservative members of our community because she refused to put up with a man’s abuse.
