Follow up— we got a lot of really cool lexical variation
Interestingly, the Cairene signing variety seems widespread throughout Upper Egypt but it’s actually the north that seems to vary more
Certain semantic fields vary much more than others (colors vary quite little, fruits and veggies greatly)

A research by Najla Alghamdi (2022) suggests that "we are witnessing an emergence of a dialect that can be called a Saudi Koine. One of the characteristics of this koine is that it features a double-sided pole, a Najdi pole and a Hijazi pole.

Absolutely.
People also differ in power and privilege so how languages mix also reflects this.
It’s important to understand sometimes the push for linguistic ‘purity’ reflects these unequal language dynamics: this is how I contextualise anti-English sentiments in the BSL and Auslan communities.

#Linguistics folks, do you know of any research on whether interlinear glossing helps learners acquire morphology? especially for language revitalization contexts?

this is a good question! There's a couple things I want to look at. How fast and in what way are undergrads able to acquire memorize the basics of the pronominal prefix system? In what way is interlinear glossing useful (if at all) to learners when trying to parse complex morphological systems?

Anyone who is interested in the Nubian language should know about Mohammed Metwally Badr (1909-1988) and his works.
He published a grammar of Nobiin in Arabic in 1955 and a pedagogical textbook for beginners in 1976 called "Read in Nubian"
