That's correct. The Bible is filled with all kinds of nonsense that can become the basis of a new Christian sect. There are no hard & fast rules on who can do it, or what emphasis they can apply. Catholics baptize infants; anabaptists find this abhorrent; they're both Christian.

Yes, you can. The Catholic Church had this same reaction to Protestants. Protestants think this about the Catholic Church. Anyone can make the claim. Whether you can get other people to buy it or not is your problem.
Ever heard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Yup. The Bible wasn't written for us, it was addressing contemporary issues with contemporary knowledge, e.g. they weren't writing about "homosexuals", they were writing about men who committed homosexual acts. They had no conception of homosexuality as part of one's identity.

Are you not aware that the Greek Orthodox Church, Catholic Church, Lutherans, Anglicans, and Calvinists (1) are all Christians, and (2) all have doctrinal differences that were at one time so severe that they killed like 25% of the inhabitants of Germany for them? Yes, Christianity is mutable.

For these Christians, they will point out that the Bible tells **you** to feed the poor, it doesn't support government programs to feed the poor. They will say that the government takes that decision away from you and hence takes the moral choice away from you.
