Humphreys ran a campaign on why not to vote for Connolly and sometimes it worked and those people didn't vote for Connolly. They just didn't vote for Humphreys either.

The ones I spoke to are centre-left and most of them said they would have voted for Bob Geldof. Others were confused by the animosity of the mainstream media towards Connolly but untrusting of Humphreys too (despite some being Harris voters)

It just turns out the side effects of Fine Gael trying to run a dirty campaign, endorsing smears and slander, didn't include actually securing more votes for Humphreys.
